San Jose Clinic Pharmacy #10

Since we have Wednesday off from school, I decided to pull a long shift at San Jose. I guess since it was the day before Thanksgiving, many of the staffs at San Jose were off in preparation for the holiday. Sandy, the pharmacist in charge, was extremely glad to see me arrived Wednesday morning (the pharmacy was running behind on everything). There were many medications to be checked in and many patients were lining up to get their medication at the last minute before the clinic close at noon for Thanksgiving. After finishing checking everything in the Pharmacy Assistance Program. I was able to talk to Sandy and Tony about the service learning presentation. Tony and I learned that MRSA has been on the rise at the clinic this past year from Sandy and that she would love for us to do a brochure on MRSA for San Jose.

Although this might be my last post about my pharmacy experience at San Jose, it will not be my last day at San Jose. I will continue to dedicate my time to this precious clinic and continue to serve and learn at the same time. This experience has been amazing and I'm glad that we have the Learning Service Project made available to UST students!

San Jose Clinic Pharmacy #9

In preparation for the crazy week before and after Thanksgiving, I went ahead and volunteer two times this week. I finally was able to receive proper credentials to access the RX Assist program and were able to update about 45 patients record, in order to make sure medications are being shipped on schedule. One problem I ran into while working was patients sharing the same last name and first name. The drug company seem to think patient's date of birth is not important, because all I see are their last and first name in the delivery package. So I have to go through multiple files in order to match the drug shipment with the medication that the patient requested. Being here at San Jose Pharmacy has help me in many ways, especially writing my essay for Texas Tech School of Pharmacy. I was able to discuss my involvement with San Jose Clinic and the experience I gained from working here. I feel the Service Learning Project has definitely many positive aspects and would be beneficial to any pre-pharmacy students who are planning to earn some pharmacy experience before stepping into pharmacy school.

San Jose Clinic Pharmacy #8

Due to last week chaotic schedule, I did not showed up to volunteer, however I did volunteered this week. When I first arrived in the pharmacy, I found many of the incoming inventory all over the floor (later found out that the staff in charged of pharmacy was sick). So Tony and I worked together to check in all inventory and make sure every patients are receiving their medications on time. Due to the cold/flu season, I noticed a high amount of antiviral and coughing medication coming in. As usual, there were high amount of maintenance drugs (blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetic drugs). These maintenance drugs must be taken as directed and on schedule, because they affect the body greatly. Therefore, at San Jose clinic, we tried our best to make sure all our patients do not missed or skipped any regimen. In retail pharmacy, we offer to give our patients "loaners" if they ever run out of pills and cannot get refill from their old prescription. As my time at San Jose starts to close down, I need to start gathering information for the Service Learning Project presentation.
